A flame or a fire?

So here's to day no. 3! I can't believe it. I have never written 3 days straight since I've been blogging. Never. Discipline is good. But that's not what I want to talk about today. Do you remember the quote I started this challenge off with? It's a great quote by one of my favorite saints, St. Catherine of Siena: "Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire!."

What I love about this quote is that not only is it true, but also there is so much more to it than just what you read at first glance. Who are you meant to be really? Other than it being a pretty profound question, what else is there? Most of us spend our entire life trying to figure this question out.

One of the best parts of this quote is that it talks about fire, not a flame mind you. No. A fire! Setting the world on fire. The image that comes to my mind when I read this is that of my own heart being set on fire. I'll tell you why:

You see, when I do the things that I love, and I'm not talking about shopping or watching a good movie...I'm talking about meaningful things. When I do things with purpose. Fulfilling things. When I engage in what truly makes me happy, I come alive. Fully alive. I am set ablaze. How do I know? Well, it's almost like a fire that burns within me. It's a fire that is not consumed, it keeps burning, as long as I continue to do those things. It's when I use my gifts and talents.

Hence, because of this feeling, I know, at that moment, that is part of who I am. Who I am meant to be. Of course it's not all about doing. The quote does say "meant to be." But if we examine this, essentially who we are meant to be, is part and parcel with using the talents we have been given. When we use these gifts. When we share them, we are most fulfilled. When we are fulfilled we become more of who we are meant to be. We are fully alive!

What are the things that make you feel alive? That set you on fire? Is it a fire or a flame? Look for the fire! Those very things that bring you most joy and set your heart ablaze, are the very things that will bring joy and "set the world on fire".

Here are the things that bring me most joy. The things that make me feel fully alive; full of passion, zeal and knowledge. The knowledge that this is who I am:

I love being a mother to my two boys. Especially when I see that they get things. Their "a-ha" moments are exhilarating to me.

I love being my husband's wife. I feel so happy and fulfilled when we are together as a family and we enjoy eachother's company. It makes me feel complete.

I love teaching. There are times when I am in a class setting when I feel that I can go on and on. I feel very much alive, filled with purpose. I know it is what I was meant to do.

I love leading women to the Lord. I love sharing with women the ways in which we can journey together and discover a wonderful life of faith and revel in the beauty of being women.

I love evangelizing, even when it is challenging. I love sharing with others my own story of how I came back to the Church and how I have discovered the way of faith.

I love writing. I have been writing since I was a child and I have always felt very fulfilled with writing, whether for myself or for others.

I can exhaust this list, but I won't. Instead I leave you with the same question again. Ask yourself: What sets your heart on fire? What makes you who you really are so you can "set the world on fire"?
